SERVING LOS ANGELES
In partnership with local rescue organizations and community leaders, WUFAW addresses urgent animal welfare issues across Los Angeles. We’ve organized protests to raise awareness and demand accountability from the City Council, Los Angeles Animal Services (LAAS), and the Mayor’s office. At the same time, we deliver direct aid to underserved communities—including Skid Row*, South LA, the South Bay and the San Fernando Valley—by offering vital resources like free vaccines, flea treatment, dewormer, food, and wellness care.
Today, our impact has expanded well beyond Skid Row. In 2024, we partnered with Aviva Family Center, PATH Transitional Housing, and the Weingart Foundation to provide wellness clinics for vulnerable pets and their families. We’ve brought in the ASPCA for spay/neuter services and worked closely with Project Street Vet to care for animals in critical condition.
We’re also addressing an ongoing crisis at an RV encampment in Long Beach, where dozens of dogs are being hoarded in unsanitary, inhumane conditions. Our team has rescued several dogs, is working to sterilize the remaining animals, and continues to bring food, supplies, and oversight to improve their lives.
From emergency calls and last-minute vet drop-offs to large-scale neglect cases, we meet the moment—day after day. The animal welfare challenges across our city and state are immense, but we remain committed to making a difference—one animal at a time.
*Skid Row, a densely populated area in downtown Los Angeles, is home to over 10,000 unhoused individuals and their pets across 50 city blocks. In the summer of 2023, local rescuer Jenn Sims alerted us to the devastating conditions animals were facing—rampant breeding, dog fighting, neglect, and untreated infestations. In response, our Animal Care Team began regular visits to offer hands-on care and supplies.
