April 2024
We landed in Havana with 2 American Veterinarians, 4 American volunteers, and 18 bags full of supplies and medications. At our AirBnB we met up with the rest of our team, 3 Cuban Vets, 2 volunteer translators, and 2 volunteer photographers. We quickly got to work sorting through the suitcases in preparation for our Wellness Clinic with our partner @ceda_cuba and @los_vet_sin_nombre
The next morning we set up again at @lmc_proyecto to do wellness exams, provide flea and tick treatment, and dewormer, while the government gave rabies vaccines. People were lined up before we even arrived. Excited for us to treat their animals, many of them still wearing our collars and leashes from last year.
The second half our trip we spent in the countryside of Pinar Del Rio, about 3 hours from Havana. We visited several rescue groups to donate supplies and medications. We also held another free spay and neuter event.
The struggle in Cuba is real and complicated. But one thing is for sure, pet owners will sacrifice their well-being to care for their animals. 🐾
In the six days we were there:
- 88 dogs and cats – Spayed and Neutered 🐾
- 267 vaccinated for Rabies 💉
- 600+ treated for fleas and parasites 🦠
- 200+ collars, harnesses & leashes handed out
600+ lbs of dog and cat food delivered - 1000s of $$$ of medications and supplies given to local rescues and veterinarians
