Headrock Dogs Rescue (HDR)
HDR is a small animal rescue organization run by a husband-and-wife team, Thep (a local) and Verity (from the UK), in a highly impoverished area of Thailand, far from the tourist destinations. They have been working tirelessly to raise animal welfare standards in Bang Saphan, Thailand, by rescuing, sterilizing, and treating sick and injured dogs and cats, along with feeding strays at local Temples.
In October 2020, we partnered with HDR to sponsor monthly sterilizations for dogs and cats because we believed in their mission and felt their work was going unnoticed by the animal welfare community.
HDR services the 900 km between Bang Saphan and the Myanmar border, with an estimated 100,000 stray animals. The region lacks any low-cost sterilization services or government-sponsored rabies vaccination programs. The nearest veterinary clinic is 2 hours away and only provides basic medical care. Vehicular accidents, infectious diseases, and starvation account for an incredible amount of unnecessary suffering, especially at Buddhist temples where many unwanted puppies and kittens are dumped.
We are confident that this partnership will continue to grow because of Thep and Verity’s commitment to the animals.
